Episode 42: Lara Briden on Hormones, Birth Control, and All Things Periods

This week on the podcast I am bringing you a guest episode with Dr. Lara Briden (author of Period Repair Manual) and I am SO excited to share this interview. Lara answers my 10000 questions on all things periods, hormones, birth control, and more.

In this episode we dig into what a healthy period looks like, symptoms of HA and PCOS (and how sometimes the two can be confused), how low carb diets could lead to a lack of ovulation and why ovulation is SO important for our health as women, an honest conversation about hormonal birth control and how it affects the body, endometriosis, PMS and so much more.

A little about Lara: Lara Briden is a naturopathic doctor and the period revolutionary—leading the change to better periods. Informed by a strong science background and more than twenty years with patients, Lara is a passionate communicator about women's health and alternatives to hormonal birth control.  Her book Period Repair Manual is a manifesto of natural treatment for better hormones and better periods and provides practical solutions using nutrition, supplements, and natural hormones. Now in its second edition, the book has been an underground sensation and has worked to quietly change the lives of tens of thousands of women.

I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did

Sarah Romero “Fitness Made Me Infertile”

Podcast (4).png

This week on the podcast I am bringing you another guest episode. I am so excited to share my conversation with Sarah (@kiwiandcarrot) and for you all to hear her story on her recovery from HA.

In this episode Sarah talks about her fitness journey, how she thought she was doing everything right from a health standpoint. She was exercising 5-6 times a week, eating 1600-1800 calories a day, eating foods that were “clean,” and was in the normal BMI range. From the outside, everything looked great.

When Sarah went off birth control to begin her family, she discovered her body wasn’t having a natural period and was eventually diagnosed with HA. We dive into her story, what she did to get her period back and how she has redefined health for herself today. We talk about redefining identities, working through the process of gaining weight, and reestablishing trust within ourselves and with our bodies.. Because our bodies are so much smarter than we give them credit for.

A little about Sarah: Sarah Romero is a certified personal trainer and fitness nutrition specialist. After recovering from hypothalamic amenorrhea and years of exercise addiction and disordered eating, she is now a strong advocate for body positivity and the anti-diet movement. She works with her mom as a food and wellness blogger for their blog, Kiwi and Carrot, as well as a contract photographer and videographer. Her and her husband just built a home together nestled up Little Cottonwood Canyon in Sandy, Utah. Sarah adores traveling with her husband and loves to spend her time outside whenever she can, rock-climbing, canyoneering, hiking and trail running.

I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

move with radiance (21).png

This week I am bringing you another interview!

In this episode, personal trainer & body confidence advocate, Brittney Motzkus, digs into her recovery with Hypothalamic Amenorrhea. We talk about everything from shifting our mindset around what “healthy” means in today's world, how to remove our worth from our pant size, and what it looks like to be in recovery from HA.

LADIES, if you have ever struggled with over exercising, your relationship to food, body image, or either have or suspect you may have HA... THIS IS A GOOD ONE.

A little about Britt: Brittney is a Personal Trainer, group fitness coach, blog writer, and a body confidence & self love advocate. She has spent the last 6 months recovering from Hypothalamic Amenorrhea which has required changes physically, mentally, and emotionally. This process has lit a fire of passion in her for spreading knowledge and awareness about HA, promoting what "healthy" truly means, and changing the stigma around different body types in the fitness culture. Britt is a big believer that healthy looks different on everyone, and also changes through different stages of our lives. When she's not training or writing blog posts, Britt loves to be outdoors hiking, surfing, biking, skiing, playing tennis, and walking on the beach. She also loves traveling and cooking.

I so, so enjoyed this conversation and I hope you all do as well.
